Roles and Responsibilities

The Medical Education Unit (MEU) acts as the central body that improves teaching quality, faculty competence, curriculum implementation, and assessment systems in a medical college.
 
  • Faculty Development 
  1. Organizes training programs, workshops, and seminars for teachers.
  2. Trains faculty in:
  3. Modern teaching methods (interactive lectures, problem-based learning).
  4. Student assessment techniques.
  5. Use of educational technology.
  6. Helps teachers improve teaching skills and professionalism.
  • Curriculum Implementation.
  1. Assists the college in implementing the national medical curriculum.
  2. Ensures proper planning of:
  3. Academic schedules
  4. Teaching-learning activities
  5. Integration of subjects
  6. Coordinates curriculum changes recommended by bodies like the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council or **World Federation for Medical Education standards.
  • Teaching–Learning Support
  1. Promotes student-centered learning methods, such as:
  2. Problem Based Learning (PBL)
  3. Case Based Learning (CBL)
  4. Small group discussions
  5. Encourages use of simulation, skills labs, and audiovisual tools.
  • Assessment and Evaluation
  1. Guides departments in designing valid and reliable examinations.
  2. Helps develop:
  3. MCQs
  4. SAQs
  5. OSPE/OSCE
  6. Structured viva
  7. Ensures standardized assessment methods across departments.
  • Educational Research 
  1. Encourages and supports research in medical education.
  2. Conducts studies on:
  3. Teaching effectiveness
  4. Student learning outcomes
  5. Curriculum evaluation
  • Quality Assurance and Monitoring 
  1. Monitors the quality of teaching and learning activities.
  2. Collects feedback from students and faculty.
  3. Helps maintain standards required for accreditation.
  • Academic Planning and Coordination 
  1. Assists the academic committee in:
  2. Planning academic calendars
  3. Coordinating interdepartmental teaching
  4. Organizing academic meetings
