Roles and Responsibilities
The Medical Education Unit (MEU) acts as the central body that improves teaching quality, faculty competence, curriculum implementation, and assessment systems in a medical college.
Faculty Development
Organizes training programs, workshops, and seminars for teachers.
Trains faculty in:
Modern teaching methods (interactive lectures, problem-based learning).
Student assessment techniques.
Use of educational technology.
Helps teachers improve teaching skills and professionalism.
Curriculum Implementation.
Assists the college in implementing the national medical curriculum.
Ensures proper planning of:
Academic schedules
Teaching-learning activities
Integration of subjects
Coordinates curriculum changes recommended by bodies like the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council or **World Federation for Medical Education standards.
Teaching–Learning Support
Promotes student-centered learning methods, such as:
Problem Based Learning (PBL)
Case Based Learning (CBL)
Small group discussions
Encourages use of simulation, skills labs, and audiovisual tools.
Assessment and Evaluation
Guides departments in designing valid and reliable examinations.
Helps develop:
MCQs
SAQs
OSPE/OSCE
Structured viva
Ensures standardized assessment methods across departments.
Educational Research
Encourages and supports research in medical education.
Conducts studies on:
Teaching effectiveness
Student learning outcomes
